In Indonesia, it is rich in beliefs, namely norms, ethics, morals, religious norms and sanctions for the smooth running of society. Including each of the people who have different beliefs. In this case, with the prevalence of COVID-19 cases there are still people who do not understand the dangers of the disease. The difficulty for people to understand this raises the need to relate aspects of culture to current conditions. This is to form new norms that will make it easier for people to get used to avoiding the second wave of COVID-19. One way is with a promotional strategy.

In this case, author will explain the norms that generally exist by taking the example of the norms believed by the author. The author has several values that are believed based on the norms adopted. Some of them are the norms of decency, religion, custom, and trusted law that form sanctions if they are violated. These habits form the culture of the author to this day. Which will be related to the current COVID-19 condition.

1. Sanctions / Legal Norms

Such as leaving the house, nowadays people are required to adhere to health protocols. This is due to the need to protect oneself and others so that they are not easily exposed to COVID-19. However, not a few still do not understand because thinking inhibits breathing or is not sure about the existing conditions. The author feels that this norm is a norm that should be adhered to in times like this. But the difficulty is how people understand its importance.

One way that has been done is to impose fines. Apart from facilitating economic turnover, it also supports the process of preventing COVID-19. Based on the news of Pikiran Rakyat Bandung Raya, the funds that have been collected in the West Java region are as much as 36.5 million with sanctions of one hundred to one hundred fifty thousand Rupiah. The total violations reached 590,858 and 80% of the total came from Kabupaten Bandung, amounting to 499,898 violations. When compared to the city of Bandung, which only recorded 3031 violations, this can indicate that the community around the district is less sensitive to the condition of COVID-19.

The author believes that this sanction can help illustrate public awareness of this disease. However, because it is deemed ineffective, further preventive action is needed. For example, they form new norms that are more focused on areas where there are many violations. A promotional strategy that can be used is placing more public service advertisements in these areas. Whether in the form of billboards, giving free masks to offenders, or viral videos that are spread on social media. The author believes that by expanding awareness, a wider word of mouth is formed, especially for non-urban areas so that they change their behaviour using masks.

2. Ethic / Norms of Decency

In addition, for the norms of politeness in meeting someone, generally there are greetings and touching. The author feels that this norm needs to be changed during this pandemic in order to reduce physical contact. Because this has become a habit, for people who are not exposed to much information about the spread of COVID-19, it is ignoring and continuing to do so. Preventive action that has been taken is to promote the use of health protocols and physical distancing. However, this can be improved by promoting the victims who have fallen due to disobedience to physical distancing in the form of educational advertisements in various place.

By showing the fact that being close together in this condition can make it as the victim is shown, it is hoped that the community will be more aware and afraid of this and form new habits in meeting. Especially in avoiding shaking hands while maintaining a distance and preparing disinfectants when touching something.

3. Belief / Religious Norm

In the writer’s belief, namely Islam, it is necessary to perform Friday prayers for men in the mosque. However, the current condition is not possible because of concerns that there will be complications that make the spread of Covid-19 more vulnerable. In the area near the author, sometimes Friday prayer activities are still carried out by applying health protocols and maintaining distance. However, the author feels that this is not enough to prevent the spread of this disease. What the authors can propose is to promote limiting the capacity of visitors to the mosque, calling for stay-at-home and distributing masks for free.

It is hoped that people will be less crowding despite using health protocols. Previously, the author’s regional mosque had carried out this for Friday prayer activities and suggested praying at home. But this habit is disappearing as people’s awareness of COVID-19 decreases over time. Therefore, it is necessary to re-apply the proposal plus the improvements that the writer has proposed.

This writing is used as one of the assignments in Customer Behavior class that I took at 2020.
